Alex Katon

Vice Chairman

Alex is General Manager of Summit Global Power (SGP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation that develops, operates and manages private power, cooling and water plants in the Middle East, Africa, South Asia and CIS regions. Prior to SGP, Alex was CEO of InfraCo Africa, a project development and equity investment company for renewable energy and infrastructure projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to InfraCo, Alex was Engie’s regional head of Strategy, Communications and Qatar asset management for Middle East, Turkey and Africa region. Alex was previously a business developer at Globeleq and International Power’s Middle East and Africa region, having started his career as an investment and fund manager at CDC Group plc. Alex read economics, accountancy and French at Newcastle University and is a Chartered Accountant.

Andrew Paul Frain

Director and CEO

Mr. Frain joined the Board in November 2017.He also holds the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Company. Mr. Frain has over 25 years’ experience in the power generation and water production industry. He has a background in design, project management, business development and operations. He has worked for consultants, EPC contractors and equipment manufacturers throughout Europe the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Prior to joining the Company, he was the Plant General Manager for the Az-Zour North Operations and Maintenance Company. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Integrated Engineering Systems from Manchester Metropolitan University and has a Master of Science degree in Energy from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.

Ghazi Abdulrahman Al Sanea

Director

Ghazi is Head of Investment Research at the Public Institution for Social Security since March 2018 where he manages a team that is responsible for portfolio analysis on the total portfolio of the pension, and to conduct macro studies to evaluate the effect of the macro environment on the portfolio.  Previously, Ghazi was a Partner of Investment Due Diligence at Albourne Partners Ltd for nine years.  He was responsible for research and due diligence and manager selection in various private markets geographically and covering many strategies.  Prior to Albourne, Ghazi worked at Global Investment House in Kuwait for seven years as an AVP covering mutual funds and private equity funds.  Ghazi is also a board member of Wafra International Investment Co. 

Quentin des Cressonnieres

Director

Quentin is Head of Asset Management Kuwait & Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Board member of Engie power & water assets in the Middle East. Previously General Manager of ENGIE Services Kuwait, he focused on Energy Efficiency and Facility Management solutions, as well as hybrid solutions and renewable projects. Prior, Quentin was Chief Financial Officer of Shamal Az-zour, Kuwait’s first Independent Water and Power Producer (IWPP) Project. He has been involved in the power sector in Europe and Middle East for more than 12 years. Since 2012, he participated to the development, financing and the management of the construction phase of Azzour. Quentin holds an MBA from Solvay Business School, Brussels.

Farah Abdulrahman AlHumaidan

Farah is the Executive Assistant in Shamal Az-Zour Al-Oula. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business from Gulf University for Science and Technology, Kuwait. Farah is the first female and the youngest member to join Shamal’s board.

Naveen Chandra Jha

Chief Technical Officer

Mr. Naveen joined the company as Chief Technical Officer in October 2016. He has over 30 years of work experience in the field of Power Generation and Desalination (Water Production) industry. He has worked with OEMs and IWPPs in India and Oman. He has a background in Installation, Commissioning, Project Management, and Operations. Prior to joining the company, he worked as the Technical Manager for the ‘Suez Tractebel Operations and Maintenance Company Oman’ (an ENGIE company) in Oman which is engaged in Operation & Maintenance of 6 power plants in Oman. He is a graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology in India in 1989.

Chris Balm

Chief Financial Officer

Chris began his career with KPMG in Sheffield. Over the next 12 years, he worked in London, Christchurch in New Zealand and finally as a senior manager in Lisbon in Portugal. In 1993, Chris left KPMG to join a recently privatised power project. Since then he has worked in power/water projects and related industries such as LNG in Zambia, UK, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and, now, Kuwait.

Ali Fahad Abdulsalam

Compliance Officer and Investment Relations Officer

Ali joined the company as the compliance officer and investor relations manager in September,2020. Previously, he was the registered Risk officer within Middle East Financial Brokerage Company with 6 years of experience within the Compliance and Risk field. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration – Accounting and Management Information System from University of the Pacific, California.
